Every single day I fail Him

Lamentations 3:22-23 says “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” This is a verse I’ve heard all my life. Since my walk with Him has gotten much closer, I realize how much and how often I fail, and now I cling to this scripture. If you start paying attention to every negative word that comes out of your mouth, or every negative thought that you allow to keep nagging away in your head, you know this too. But if you are a Christian, the best part of knowing what a failure we are, is realizing that He has already made a way for us and we are forgiven! He ALREADY knows when you’re going to fail, and how badly. Does this give us an excuse to not try to do better? No, not if you’re truly walking with Him, because if you are, you WANT to do better. My parents have always been a perfect example of God’s love to me. It never mattered how much trouble I got into, or how smart-mouthed I was, they loved me anyway. If you have kids, you should understand this type of unconditional love. There is nothing they could ever do to make you love them less. That is how His love is for us. So keep this in mind when you know you’ve said the wrong thing, or chosen the wrong path. When I began this journey, I tried so hard to only speak positively! I even wore a bracelet to help me remember, (my friends will laugh when they read this) because every time I complained, or gossiped, or did anything that was not good in His sight, I was supposed to move my bracelet. Do you have any idea how many times a day I had to move that thing? Just for laughs, you should try it one day. I quickly realized it is not possible to be perfect, because there is only One perfect one. Which brings me to my last point; Proverbs 4:23 says “Above all, be careful what you think, because your thoughts control your life.” Or as my kids hear me say, “trash in, trash out”. So if you are discouraged about a certain situation, pray about it. Get your Bible out and find scripture that will help you deal with what is going on and memorize it. Then, every time that discouragement creeps into you mind, recite that scripture. You’ll quickly realize you are releasing the devil’s hold in your life and handing it over to The One who can fix it! "MY LORD GOD, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone." Prayer by Thomas Merton
